What does AWG stand for in UL electronic wire harness?

AWG is the American wire diameter specification, which represents the standard of wire diameter, and is the unit of UL electronic wire harness.

The value in front of the UL electronic wire AWG is the number of holes that the wire will pass through before forming the final diameter. The larger the value, the more holes the wire passes through and the smaller the diameter of the wire. Thick wires have better physical strength and lower resistance, but the thicker the wires, the more copper is needed to make the cable, which can cause the cable to be heavier, more difficult to install, and more expensive.

Different UL electronic wire AWG values, the diameter, area and weight of the wire are different. With the development of technology, the performance of the wire continues to improve. For the wire, its performance is more important, especially in ohms (Ω). Therefore, the actual size of the wire can be slightly larger or smaller than the actual size. Generally speaking, the single-wire conductor determines the wire size based on the diameter, and the stranded wire determines the wire size based on the cross-sectional area.
