What are the benefits of terminal plating

Terminal wiring harness is an indispensable product of electronic products. Its primary function is to transfer data and information from one component to another. It is common to connect wiring harnesses in smart homes or industrial use. So why do terminals need electroplating?

Why do terminals need to use electroplating, there are mainly several advantages:

1. Anti-corrosion (such as nickel, chromium, zinc, etc.). Normally raw materials such as copper and iron are easily oxidized in the air. Electroplating a layer of metal with strong oxidation resistance can improve the corrosion resistance of the terminal.

2. Enhanced conductivity (such as gold plating, silver, etc.). The conductivity of raw materials such as iron and phosphor copper is usually below 20%, which cannot meet the requirements for low-impedance connectors, so the surface layer is electroplated with high-conductivity metals such as gold Then the impedance can be reduced.

3. Enhancing the adhesion of electroplating (such as copper plating) For metals with poor adhesion, copper primer is usually used to enhance adhesion before electroplating.

4. Improve solderability (such as gold plating, tin, etc.). Because the original material has poor adhesion to tin, the surface can be plated with a certain thickness of tin and other substances to improve the solderability of the parts.

5. Beautiful appearance (such as gold, silver, nickel, etc.) After electroplating, the terminal metal usually has a brighter appearance than the material.
