As mentioned above, USB cable assemblies are designed with several different connector types. The most common types you will see (Figure 2) are called Type A and Type B, although you may see "mini-B" connectors with 4 or 5 pins. Different types of connectors have important strategic purposes. They are designed so you can not plug two computers into one another, and you can not plug two peripheral devices in together.
