Understanding Wire Harnesses

Nov 02, 2020 Leave a message

Although many professionals use cable assemblies and wire harnesses interchangeably, these multi-wire (or multi-wire) configurations can be made in different ways to meet different purposes in different environments and applications.

Simply put, a wire harness is an outer covering or sheath that protects the inner conductor or conductor bundle. These internal components may already have a sheath for insulation and protection, or they may rely on wiring harnesses to create an ideal operating environment. Either way, the wiring harness provides the key organization at the core of the system and does this through a simple, straightforward, and low-cost design.

Wiring harnesses are designed to be simple yet effective, which keeps their cost down compared to more complex harnessing solutions. In many cases, a standard wiring harness will provide all the necessary components to optimize any interconnection requirements.
