Wire Harness Basics
A wire harness or cable assembly is an assembly of wires or cables that transmits signals or electrical power.
● Wires or cables are often bundled together, bundled with wires, laces, sleeves, tape conduits or many other options including the above combinations.
● By reducing installation time and allowing standardization, wiring harnesses have advantages over loose wires and cables.
● Wires usually have terminal blocks, which can be assembled into keyed housings to prevent errors and connected to other parts of the final assembly.
● Due to the many different processes involved, wiring harness assembly is usually done manually.
● For more information, please refer to the Thermal Control Harness Design Guide.

Wire harness design is often overlooked in the product development.
● This can result in incomplete drawings and obstacles in the manufacturing process.
● Early partnership with Thermtrol can help guide the design by avoiding many last minute changes.
● OEM Tooling and material lead times can be very long – advanced planning is important.
