SATA or Serial ATA or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment was introduced in 2001 as the IDE standard for connecting hard drives and other optical drives to the motherboard. Any cable compatible with the IDE standard is called a SATA cable.

SATA cable connects storage devices such as hard disks and optical drives in the computer to the motherboard. SATA cables are used for data transmission and powering data drives and SSDs.
