Are wire harnesses same as cable assemblies

Oct 14, 2020 Leave a message

On the outside, it may seem that there is no big difference between wire harnesses and cables assemblies. Many a time you will often hear the two terms used interchangeably by technicians and engineers alike, which can lead to huge confusion. Some of the major differences are outlined here so you’ll get a clear understanding of what exactly makes the two so distinct from each other. A cable assembly is found in every electronic device and machine and more often they are exposed, unlike wire harnesses. Cables assemblies are fixed in medical devices, automobiles, control assemblies, heavy machinery, industrial controls etc. Furthermore, the cable assembly is covered with multiple layers of plastic to protect against heat, fire, water and extreme weather conditions. A heavy plastic sheath is very important, especially when you are working in an unstable environment. Bundling all the wires together can prevent accidents and other major accidents in the workplace.
